NO – As this is a more competitive playing opportunity, making a team or the same team as in past seasons, is not guaranteed. We know that not making a team can be a tough experience and we encourage those that do not make a team to continue to work on their game, participate in other playing opportunities like the Beverly YMCA Kiwanis basketball program, and to try out for a team the following year, if that is something they want to do.
NO – Our league is designated for girls in grades 4-8 who live and/or go to school in Beverly, MA.
NO – The goal is to have every player on the team have an opportunity to play in every game. That being said, as this is a more competitive program, playing time is left to the discretion of the coach and therefore, is not guaranteed to be equal across the team. Playing time will be determined by each coach and may be based on match-ups with other teams, attendance and participation at weekly practices, overall effort and attitude, and skill development. Playing time will not be equal across the team.
YES – Players can choose to participate on both a BGTB team and other teams should they have the interest and availability. Should conflicts arise in practice or game schedules, players are asked to give their BGTB team's schedule priority.
For the 2022-2023 season, tryouts are in late October with games running from December-March.
For the 2022-2023 season, all teams will practice two (2) times per week at gyms in Beverly, MA.
All teams (grades 4-8) compete in the River Valley League (www.rivervalleygirlsbasketball.com) which has teams from both MA and NH.
For the 2021-2022 season, we anticipate having a full season of 16-18 games plus playoffs. Additional tournaments can be scheduled at the head coach’s discretion.
We encourage players who do not make a team in this program to join the Beverly YMCA's Kiwanis program which offers basketball for all levels. Each new season provides an opportunity to try out again for a BGTB team so we encourage you to continue to work on your basketball skills and game and try out again next year if you’d like.
NO – Players must try out each season to make a team and making a team one year does not guarantee making teams in subsequent years. A player must try out each year for their new grade team.
NO – As a program, we have decided that 3rd graders will not be permitted to try out and play on the 4th grade team. We encourage them to try out for the team when they are in the 4th grade.
